The RAV4 Technology Package, explained

The package that changed the most from year to year, and the one that decides which gauges an XSE gets.

Toyota reshuffled this package almost every year. The same name can mean a 360-degree camera and a memory seat on one RAV4, or just parking sensors and a wireless charger on another. On a 2023 or newer XSE it even decides which gauge cluster you get. This guide shows what's in it for each trim and year.

Toyota called it the Technology Package in 2021 and 2022, then renamed it the Advanced Technology Package in 2023. It's the same slot on the order sheet, but the contents moved around a lot. Features went in, came out, and changed names, so a "Tech Package" RAV4 from one year can be quite different from another. Here's the full picture from Toyota's brochures.

What's in it on each trim

XSE Hybrid

2021 to 2025$2,010 newBiggest changes
  • Power driver's seat with two-position memory (2022 on)
  • Front and rear parking assist with automatic braking
  • Smart Key on all doors and the liftgate (2022 on)
  • Foot-activated power liftgate (2022 on)
  • 360-degree overhead camera with curb view (2022 on)
  • Digital rearview mirror with HomeLink (2022 only)
  • Wireless phone charging
  • 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster (2023 on, see note)

In 2021 the XSE's package was small: just parking assist and wireless charging. In 2022 it became the big package above. From 2023 on, it's also how an XSE gets the 12.3-inch gauge cluster. Toyota's brochures call that cluster standard on the 2023 and 2024 XSE, but real cars don't bear that out: an XSE without the package has the smaller 7-inch cluster, in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Limited

2021 to 2024
  • Smart Key on all doors and the liftgate
  • Foot-activated power liftgate
  • 360-degree overhead camera with curb view
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Digital rearview mirror with HomeLink (2022 only)

Steady from year to year, apart from the digital mirror, which was in the package for 2022 only.

XLE Premium

2021 to 2024
  • Front and rear parking assist with automatic braking
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Digital rearview mirror with HomeLink (2021 and 2022 only)

No 360 camera on any year. If that camera matters to you, the XLE Premium can't get it from this package.

TRD Off-Road

2021 to 2024Shrank over time
  • Front and rear parking assist with automatic braking
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Digital rearview mirror with HomeLink (2021 and 2022 only)
  • 360-degree overhead camera (2021 only)

The 2021 TRD Off-Road package was the best one, with the 360 camera and the digital mirror. Both were gone by 2023.

What happened to the digital mirror?

Starting in 2023, Toyota pulled the digital rearview mirror out of the package and sold it on its own for about $200 on the XSE and Limited. That means a 2023 or newer RAV4 with the Technology Package doesn't necessarily have the mirror, and one without the package might. Check the car itself, not just the listing.

The digital mirror flips between a normal mirror and a live feed from a rear camera, so a full cargo area or tall passengers never block your view. HomeLink is the built-in garage door opener.

Buddy's take: is it worth it?

On a 2023 to 2025 XSE, get it. Skipping it leaves you with the small 7-inch gauge cluster, and you can't add the big screen later.

On a 2022 to 2024 XSE or a Limited, it's worth it if you park in tight spots. The 360 camera and the hands-free liftgate are the features people use every day.

On an XLE Premium or TRD Off-Road from 2023 on, it's only parking sensors and a wireless charger, so it's easy to live without.

Still to come

The 2019 and 2020 model years, plus the 2025 Limited, XLE Premium, and TRD Off-Road, are next. Toyota no longer posts the older brochures online, and it never published one for 2025, so we're confirming those from window stickers.

Where this comes from
  • Toyota's own RAV4 eBrochures, Packages and Options page: 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024.
  • 2025 XSE: window stickers and dealer equipment lists on real 2025 RAV4 Hybrid XSEs.
  • The gauge cluster: Toyota's option descriptions on certified used XSEs list the 12.3-inch cluster inside the package, and dealer photos of a 2024 and a 2025 XSE without the package show the 7-inch.
  • The $2,010 price and the $200 mirror price are Toyota's option prices for the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid XSE, as listed on Edmunds.
